Joelyn Leon for Board of Education
Democrats, Independents and Republicans Working Together
Joelyn Leon (D) |
My name is Joelyn Leon and I am a candidate for the East Hampton Board of Education. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Connecticut and will receive my Master of Arts degree in Public Policy from Trinity College in May of 2012. I have worked for the United Auto Workers in Farmington, CT for 18 years where I serve as the Administrative Assistant to the Regional Director. I have lived in East Hampton for almost nine years with my husband and have two children, a ten year old daughter and a five year old son. As a resident of East Hampton with two children in the East Hampton school system I believe that serving on the Board of Education would not only provide me an opportunity to give back to the community I live in but also a chance to assist the Board, the administrators, teachers and the Superintendent in developing and implementing policy to ensure that all of the children within the school system receive the best education possible in order to prepare them for the competitive world we live in. Not only does a high quality education enable students to get into the best colleges and the means to obtain quality jobs that provide a living wage but it results in a town filled with educated residents who want to continually move East Hampton forward in a positive direction. Many obstacles face the future of East Hampton as well as the State of Connecticut. As a member of the Board of Education I will work hard to address these challenges and determine the best possible solutions in order to help foster the growth of our children and their futures as well as the future of East Hampton. I ask for your support for my candidacy as well as the entire Chatham Party line. |
