Why I'm Running for Office
Everett "Dick" Breece - Zoning Board of Appeals
The Chatham Party
My name is Everett Breece and I am taking this opportunity to inform the residents of East Hampton of my candidacy to run as a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals under the auspices of the Chatham Party.
I am not a newcomer to East Hampton politics and elected public service. In the past I served on the Board of Finance which also included a chairmanship. In 1977, running as a Republican, I was elected to the Board of Selectmen and served with Mary Ann Barton. Two years later, I was re-elected and named vice chairman of the Board.
I am a lifelong resident of East Hampton summering in my youth on Lake Pocotopaug. My family became permanent residents of East Hampton in 1942. For the last 50 years, I have lived in the Middle Haddam Historic District.
I graduated from primary and high school from the East Hampton school system. I attended the University of Connecticut after completing a three-year apprenticeship at UTC, where I then worked as a bench mechanic and a project material control analyst. Later I was employed as an estimator and purchasing agent for a small manufacturing company. I retired in 2004 after 31 years as the production manager and purchasing agent.
Four years ago I became a registered Independent, thus my introduction to the Chatham Party - an independent and strong voice for East Hampton.
The Chatham Party is made up of young and mature people. They’re well informed voices embody the precepts of open government encompassing truth and transparency. These precepts as well as sound fiscal policies are the backbone of the informed, ethical and public interest philosophy of the Chatham Party.
In recent years, the town has had to contend with poorly controlled development. The Chatham Party recognizes the pitfalls of inadequate planning and the need to update regulations so that development is done right. Finally, there is a need to properly enforce our current regulations to ensure better land use for both economic and residential stability.
Growing up in East Hampton, I know what the town was and I know what it can be with the right direction and leadership.
Vote row “C” for the Chatham Party ticket this Election Day. Thank you for the opportunity to reintroduce myself and offer my services to our Town.
