Why I'm Running for Office
Kyle Dostaler - Town Council
Time to Stop Wasteful Spending
On October 15th, the Town of East Hampton spent public funds at the State of the Town Address event held at St. Clements Castle in Portland to award trophies to a number of town council candidates. Each trophy cost around $70 per piece.
All other towns in the State of Connecticut recognize their volunteers in April during National Volunteer Recognition Week. However, here in East Hampton we recognize our town council volunteers two weeks prior to a municipal election.
One of the scheduled keynote speakers at this event? Republican candidate for Town Council Melissa Engel who will have spoken “…about projects on the drawing boards for the upcoming year(s).” Is this how you want your taxpayer dollars spent giving a political candidate a political platform at a town sponsored event two weeks before our municipal election?
I think there are better ways to spend our taxpayer dollars. We need to come up with a budgeted plan to fix our roads. Build new high school science and computer labs so we don’t lose accreditation. We need more library, senior and parks and recreation services and facilities. We need planned economic development done right. We need proper zoning enforcement and create a 10-year budgeted plan to fix our lake. Most importantly, we need to prioritize what the town needs with what the town can afford.
In the 2007 election, only 20 votes separated who held the town council majority. It was an extremely close race with 4 recounts to determine the winners. For the past two years, the two major parties have squandered opportunities for stimulus money. East Hampton did not get one penny to build, repair or fix our school facilities. Why?
If you care about the outcome of this November 3rd election and if you want to genuinely improve services for the community by prioritizing how your taxpayer dollars are spent - Vote Row “C” for the Chatham Party.
