Why I'm Running for Office

John Jordon - Town Council

Town Council Candidate
My name is John Jordon and I am running for Town Council with the Chatham Party. I represent only one special interest - the community and people of East Hampton.

I became involved as a volunteer with the Town when I was appointed to the Lake Pocotopaug Commission, which was created when the Chatham Party held majority on Town Council. In its short years in existence, we accomplished a great deal because we were allowed to operate independently - absent the usual politics.

Recently the two major parties have thwarted progress to improve the Lake and diluted the efforts of volunteers by first dissolving the Lake Commission, and then by taking control of our agendas. When our Vice Chairman had the “audacity” to openly speak about our lake watershed issues, he was removed. If we are not allowed to openly discuss our problems, how can we ever hope to fix them?

In light of how the current Town Council “leadership” has commandeered Lake clean up efforts, I decided to run for Town Council because it became clear to me that my interest is about more than just the Lake, it’s about our community.

For far too long, funds which would improve the quality of life for all residents have taken a back seat to the opposition's pet projects. Our town must do what each family does in hard economic times.  We must select projects that will improve the quality of life for the most people. We need to prioritize and plan.

Roads must be repaired, the labs in our schools must be brought up to current standards less we lose our accreditation and, our impaired lake must be cleaned up for our property values and future generations.

I am a proponent of development in and around the town providing that developers are strictly and consistently held to regulations designed to protect the environment and, more importantly, taxpayer’s wallets.

We are currently being asked to pursue a water project which, in the end, will cost over $60 million. At the same time, parents have to pay the town $150 per sport/per child!

Please vote for me so I can work for you. On November 3rd Vote Row "C", which stands for COMMUNITY FIRST (i.e. schools, roads, lake improvement and sustainable economic development).
